Mohs Histology Services Offered
- Timely and accurate Mohs dermatology specimen preparation for tissue excised using the Mohs frozen section technique, insuring you see epithelial and deep margin sections within the first 50 - 100 microns of the surgical margin. Sections routinely available in less than 30 minutes of receipt of specimen including mapping. Mohs Lab Staffing, , is providing emergency, periodic and vacation/maternity leave coverage.
- Mohs Technician Training:
- Mohs specimen orientation and mapping. Principles of dividing, mapping and relaxing specimens taught to insure accuracy and consistency. The key to obtaining early complete epithelial and deep margins is to insure all margins are embedded simultaneously down at the same plane. This is key training all my students receive.
- Proper Mohs specimen handling to insure highest quality slides from difficult tissues such as from the canthus, eyelid, nose and lip where cosmetic repair is critical.
- Embedding of large and small Mohs specimens with speed and accuracy to insure earliest sections of epithelial and deep margins on a timely basis. First complete sections taken within the first 50 -100 microns of the deep surgical margin. Training with the use of the glass slide technique and the Cryo-Embedder(the best device for speeding up turn-around time and eliminating ice crystal artifact).
- Cutting techniques to insure quality sections and minimize artifacts including superior sections of fatty specimens. I provide training so you receive sections which look like they were cut from a paraffin block!
- Equipment operation, maintenance and troubleshooting, including cryostat operation and adjustment, stainer set-up and use and troubleshooting of fixatives and stains.
- Optimization of H & E stain set-up to improve contrast and cellular detail. My experience can help overcome problems with uneven or dark staining, bleeding of eosin in finished slides and common cutting artifacts including folded edges, holes in the fatty areas of the deep margin and lifting of areas of sections from the slide including cartilage.
- Training Manual provided to trainees.
- Certificate of Training provided to all trainees.
- I teach the principles so your technician can trouble-shoot problems themselves.
